Today we are going to learn how to clean a dirty mattress, with pee, with humidity or properly because of its age, something that is very normal in any home. Some ignore how dangerous it can be to not clean your mattress every week. No matter how much you change the sheets every day, bacteria pass over them and end up in the mattress, which allows them to reproduce without problems.
Even if it is as clean as possible, these bacteria are always present. In a study from a university in the United States, it was shown that more than a third of the bacteria found in bed come from our own bodies, including fecal, skin and saliva bacteria.

Then there are the stains generated by humidity, which can generate very strong respiratory diseases. In this article we are going to show you some homemade and economical tricks to remove various types of stains and bad odors, leaving your mattress as good as new.
How to Clean a Mattress: Top 8 Tricks
1- White vinegar
This method is perfect for the most recent mold stains. On a damp cloth, spray water, detergent and plenty of vinegar. Rub the affected area a little and let it act for a few hours.
What this mixture does, is it affects the pH of the mold and eliminates all the bacteria that are in the stain. And rest assured because it does not leave a vinegar smell, as it evaporates over time.
2- Baking Soda: How to clean a mattress with pee?
To remove urine stains from a mattress, we simply apply baking soda to the stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
After some time, rub the stain with a sponge with soapy water in proportionate amounts. To finish, wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry.
3- Hydrogen Peroxide (Hydrogen Peroxide)
To remove older mold stains, we would need 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tbsp. of baking soda. Mix well and apply this mixture on a toothbrush that we do not use.
Now we just brush the stain until the mixture becomes very foamy. To finish, remove the excess with a slightly damp cloth.
4- Detergent
Blood stains can be somewhat annoying to clean, but it simply takes 1 product and patience. Put a little detergent on a damp cloth and apply it to the stain (without rubbing).
After about 15 minutes, wipe off excess detergent with a completely dry cloth. It may not come out at all at first, but just by repeating this procedure one more time, the stain is completely gone.
5- Homemade Mix
This option is a bit difficult to prepare, but it helps remove various types of stains and removes bacteria completely.
To do this, we need:
- 1 Cup of pure alcohol
- 3 glasses of White Vinegar
- 1 tbsp. of Baking Soda
- 3 tbsp. of Fabric Softener
- Hand wipes c/n
Procedure
- Combine all the ingredients (except the wipes) in a large container
- Gradually soak a washcloth and rub the entire mattress well (in areas with more stains, rub more vigorously)
- Once the mixture is finished, leave the mattress exposed to the sun or somewhere that is well ventilated.
With this you will have your mattress very clean.
6- Lemon
Removing wine stains is a pain, but with this mixture it will be very simple. Just mix half a cup of water with the juice of half a lemon.
Soak a damp cloth in this mixture and rub the stain vigorously. Let it dry for 1 hour in a well-ventilated place.
7- Alcohol
We all like animals to sleep with us, but sometimes they leave a pretty strong smell on the mattress.
To solve it we would need a sprinkler. In it we are going to put half a glass of ethyl alcohol and half a glass of white vinegar. Spray the entire mattress and let it dry naturally for 30 minutes.
With this we completely eliminate the bad odors generated by the animals, although it leaves a neutral odor. If you want it to smell pleasant, add a tablespoon of fabric softener to the mixture and mix well.
8- Vacuum cleaner
This step is very good against very dirty and somewhat old mattresses. Although we need a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dirt in an effective way.
To do this, we will need:
- Vacuum cleaner
- Baking Soda c/n (amount needed)
- Soft brush
Procedure
Sprinkle a lot of baking soda over the mattress (sprinkling a larger amount on darker spots) and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
After the time, with a brush rub well all over the surface (without applying too much force) and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
Finally, we vacuum the entire mattress with the remains of baking soda and the dust generated by the stains. With this procedure, we will obtain a mattress free of dirt and perfect for using again.
