Fight bed bugs with diatomaceous earth: Diatomaceous earth is a powdery substance made from the fossilized remains of small aquatic organisms known as diatoms. The powder works by dehydrating bed bugs by absorbing oils and fats from their exoskeletons, causing them to disappear.
How to apply diatomaceous earth for bed bugs:
Clean and prepare your space: Vacuum sleeping areas and surrounding areas thoroughly.
Apply diatomaceous earth: Sprinkle a thin layer of food-grade diatomaceous earth over the mattress, bed frame, along the edges of carpets, and into cracks or crevices where bed bugs may hide.
Leave the diatomaceous earth: Let the diatomaceous earth sit for several days or a week. During this time, avoid wet cleaning the treated areas.
Application of Cloves for Bed Bugs:
Clove bags: Place whole cloves or clove powder in small bags and place them in and around your mattress, in drawers and cabinets.
Clove Oil Spray: Mix clove essential oil with water and lightly spray the bed frame and surrounding areas. Renew this spray every few days for best results.
Expanding use to other insects: Both diatomaceous earth and cloves are not only effective against bed bugs, but also work well to control other common household pests:
