TENDER AND FLUFFY TURKISH BREAD RECIPE

Making soft, fluffy Turkish bread, also known as “pide” or “ramazanpidasi,” is a delight. Here is a basic recipe to make Turkish bread at home:

Ingredients:

For the mass:

1 cup warm water
One teaspoon sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (about one envelope)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil

For the glaze:

1 beaten egg (to brush the dough before baking)
Sesame or nigella seeds (optional)

Preparation:

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar.

Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture is foamy.

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast and olive oil.

Mix the ingredients until forming a dough.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 220°C.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and divide it into desired size portions.

Roll out each portion into an oval or rectangular shape, about 1cm thick.

Transfer the dough shapes to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brush each dough shape with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds, if using.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the bread is golden and cooked through.

Remove from the oven and let cool before cutting and serving.

Ready! Now you have soft and fluffy Turkish bread to enjoy.

You can use it as a base for kebabs, wrap fillings or simply enjoy it with dips.

Enjoy!
