The plant is ideal for  flavoring any dish,  from the simplest to the most complicated, which is why it is present on all the windowsills of homes in the world.

To keep basil healthy  you simply have to take some precautions, nothing special and nothing especially demanding.

What to pay attention to to ensure a long life for basil

The aromatic plant has an intense aroma  that changes the flavor of the caprese, whatever the salad, bruschetta or pizza with sauce. It is convenient to have a plant on hand, from which you can tear a leaf when necessary, but if you want to keep it alive in excellent condition, it is better to be careful because it tends to dry out easily.

The first thing you should pay attention to is sunlight  , then you should keep parasites as far away as possible, it requires frequent watering, once you pay attention to all this you move on to reproduction which allows you to have many seedlings without spending a single cent.

How to reproduce the basil plant

Reproducing the seedling is very easy, it is reproduced by cuttings or seeds. The cutting method is very simple, the side stems are cut, the length of the twig should be 10 cm. Then remove the leaves from the bottom, immerse them inside, put the branch in a glass of water and  leave it in a warm and bright place  , as long as it is not in direct contact with sunlight.

After a few days the cutting reproduces the roots  and grows slowly. The water must be changed every day to prevent bacteria from accumulating, in this way the rooting process occurs, which can also be accelerated by using a commercial rooting agent. When the roots become long and thick, you can proceed to remove the branch from the water, planting it directly in a pot or in the garden soil.

In both cases, during the first days you should do everything possible to  protect the plant  because, being fragile, it needs care. The roots must take root well in the ground to be safe. After a few weeks, many other basil plants will have grown from that plant so that they can be used for cooking in any way and at any time.

What does basil need to grow well?

Basil requires a lot of light  , it really needs it to grow well. But be careful where you place it in different seasons. For example, in summer the plant grows effortlessly both in the garden and on the balcony, avoiding keeping it directly exposed to the sun’s rays, which can even kill it. So obviously it is essential to keep it  moist to proceed with watering as many times as necessary.  We must avoid allowing water to stagnate because stagnation can be lethal.

However, in winter  it has to be moved  inside  the house  because the temperature here remains between 20 and 25 degrees. Obviously, just like in summer, it needs sun and light, so it is advisable to have it on a window sill, avoiding cold or hot air currents. The soil must always be kept moist because only then will the plant be able to germinate.

In the winter period  , to give the basil adequate food, it is advisable to fertilize the plant. To keep it lush, you need to pay attention to how you pick  the leaves  . The plants must be cut in the entire twigs, at the tips, and not in the leaves as we are used to doing. This method is dangerous because it delays flowering and causes significant energy expenditure.
