It is important to take into account these insects and even rats could be close to us, we must remember that they are animals from dirty spaces such as garbage cans, sewers, drains and others. For these pests, they are infected places but they are their natural habitat and they breed on urban roads.
Beyond these spaces, the truth is that we don’t want it inside our homes. Therefore, the necessary measures must be taken to keep them away from us, insecticides certainly do not solve the whole problem.
Here are some tips and recommendations to keep these nasty pests away from your home.
Get rid of urban pests without using poisons
As we have already mentioned, insecticides are not enough to eliminate these pests and, in addition, they are harmful to health due to their harmful components.
Here are some practical tips to get rid of these pests:
Spiders:
Although there are a variety of spiders, they usually take refuge in the corners of the house, such as behind doors, the ceiling, under furniture. You have to be vigilant and get rid of the things that attract them, such as cardboard, newspapers and magazines.
The key is not to accumulate these materials inside the house, but they can also be kept away with a home remedy:
- To start, we mix 5 ml. of camphor essence or it could be 10 sprigs of rosemary well crushed in 1 liter of alcohol. We let it sit for 1 week.
- After a week, we proceed to clean the whole house with this mixture on a damp cloth.
Cockroaches:
Cockroaches invade especially when food is available, hence the importance of storing all food properly.
In addition, it is essential to cover uncovered sewers or drains, we must prevent them from entering our home.
Of course, apart from certain precautions, you have to look for a homemade solution. For example, we can prepare a mixture of boric acid of about 100 grams, 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 chopped onion. Everything is mixed and a kind of dough is obtained, we shape it into small balls and stall them in the corners of the house.
Termites:
As we well know, termites appear in everything made of wood, so the best way to protect wood is varnishing.
For this reason, to better protect doors and furniture, you should apply orange or lemongrass oil every week. The recommendation is to do this when we perform a deep cleaning in the house.
Ant:
To begin with, if we do not want to see ants in the house, we must not leave food or traces of it. They are known to be particularly attracted to sweets, so be very careful with the poorly closed door of the refrigerator.
On the other hand, we have to look for where they enter our house. If we manage to find cracks or holes to enter, place vinegar or detergent precisely in this spot, you can also rub a little ground coffee or pepper in these places.
Flies:
Without a doubt, flies are disgusting and especially in the hot season. Indeed, in rather rural places if there are other animals, the manure will attract more flies.
Don’t forget to close the garbage bags properly, in addition to covering the garbage cans. A handmade, old-fashioned solution that works well is to hang clear bags filled with water on doors or windows where water enters.
Fleas:
Generally, when we have pets at home, fleas appear, which is why we can notice them in the yard. Also, when we take our pet to someone’s home with an animal that has fleas, there is a risk that it will become infected.
Cleaning will be fundamental and necessary, not only for our pet but also for his home or shelter where he sleeps. On the sofa and on the carpets, you can spread a little coarse salt and let it sit for a while, or even a few hours.
Finally, we vacuumed it for a thorough and more effective clean.
Rats:
When it comes to rats, food safety is at risk, as a packet of food will undoubtedly break it. It is therefore recommended to store it in a closed place or in glass containers, which cannot be broken.
A natural trap for rats is to spread ground beans in the corners of the house and when consumed by rodents, they will ferment in the stomach and they will die of poisoning.
Another more aggressive tactic is to mix 1/4 cup of boric acid with 1 cup of peanut butter, roll it into balls, and distribute them around the house.
Butterflies:
Moths are another annoying pest, they go directly on clothes, paper and even packaged food. Generally, they are found in unventilated and humid spaces, so it is common to find them in closets and other cabinets.
What we know about moths is that they don’t like strong smells, so a home remedy to scare them away is to use herbs. Simply, you can place lemongrass in the pockets of clothes, for example.
Another option is to spray a combination every week that consists of mixing: 250 ml of spirit vinegar, about 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 1 tablespoon of cloves. Natural, very effective.
If we apply these tips and tricks, we will keep our home free of urban pests without using poisons!
