Drowned flautas are an explosion of flavors and textures typical of Mexican cuisine. Drowned flautas strike the perfect balance between a crunchy topping and a juicy filling. The fried tortilla becomes golden and crispy, providing the ideal texture to contrast with the softness of the shredded meat inside. The shredded meat filling, whether chicken, beef or pork, brings a wealth of flavors to each bite. The seasoning of the meat mixes harmoniously with the seasonings of the chili sauce, creating a combination that delights the taste buds. This recipe carries with it the authenticity and tradition of Mexican cuisine. From the rolled shape of the flautas to the intensity of the flavors, each element evokes the essence of homemade food and the culinary richness of Mexico. Spicy is not only an element of heat, but also an added dimension of flavor that makes every bite memorable. Next, I share a basic recipe to make drowned flutes:
Ingredients: For the Flautas: 12 corn tortillas, 2 cups of shredded meat (chicken, beef, pork or a combination), Vegetable oil for frying, Toothpicks to secure the flautas. For the Chile Sauce: 4 medium tomatoes, 2 guajillo chiles, seeded, 2 ancho chiles, seeded, 1 clove of garlic, 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, Salt to taste. For Assembly: 1 cup of shredded cabbage (optional), 1 cup of tomato sauce (optional).
Preparation: Preparation of the Flautas: In a frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat to fry the flautas. Fill each tortilla with a portion of shredded meat and roll it tightly. Secure with toothpicks to maintain shape. Fry the flautas in the hot oil until golden and crispy. Remove excess oil on absorbent paper. Preparing the Chili Sauce: Roast the tomatoes in a hot skillet until the skin is lightly charred. Meanwhile, toast the guajillo and ancho chiles in a hot skillet until fragrant. Do not leave them for too long to prevent them from turning bitter. Blend the roasted tomatoes, toasted chiles, garlic, cumin and salt until you obtain a smooth sauce. If necessary, add a little water to achieve the desired consistency. Assembling the Drowned Flutes: Remove the toothpicks from the flutes. Place the flautas on a plate and pour the hot chili sauce over them. Make sure to cover them completely. Optionally, serve the drowned flautas on a bed of shredded cabbage and decorate with tomato sauce to taste. And ready! Now you have delicious flautas drowned with a spicy and tasty touch. You can accompany them with traditional garnishes such as onion, radishes, avocado or cream. Enjoy this authentic Mexican delight!
