How to make a bed bug trap: detect them and kill them

One of the pests that invade our home and especially the mattresses, armchairs and other corners of the house, they are very popular and no one wants to have them. However, it is not always easy to locate them.

We are referring to bed bugs without a doubt, these small reddish-brown insects that bite the skin not only of humans, but also of our pets. Let’s remember, they feed on blood.

They can really cause us a lot of inconvenience, some think that the measure to take is to burn the furniture or objects in the house, but the truth is that it is not necessary to go that far but this problem must be solved urgently.

We may wonder why bed bugs appear in our home , far from thinking that it is due to lack of cleaning, the main reason is heat and a place to hide. Therefore, where there is a turnover of people it is their favorite place.

We are referring in particular to hotels, as well as suitcases, clothes, boxes, bedding, etc. Therefore, let’s be attentive to cracks or fissures in the mattresses, the base of the bed, under the carpets and other corners.

You have to detect them and make a bedbug trap.

Obviously, bites are indicators that there is a pest roaming around and close to us. But of course, it can also be due to other types of skin problems. For more security, you must look for physical signs of its existence.

How to make a trap

As we know, it is not possible to catch them easily, however there are homemade traps to locate them and get rid of them.

For example, we can place these traps on the legs of the bed, armchairs or other furniture, we only need the following:

You will need to:

  • 1 Container (that is the same size as the leg of the bed or chair)
  • 1 Container (bigger than the previous one)
  • 1 Adhesive tape
  • Baby powder)

Procedure:

  1. First, we proceed to cut 4 strips longer than the inside of the small container and distribute them in the container. We also place them vertically, press them firmly and make sure they are from the base to the top of the container.
  2. Then we wrap tape around the outside of the larger container, from the base to the top edge. We press to seal any raised edges.
  3. Next step, we glue the small container in the center of the large container.
  4. Then we sprinkle the talcum powder on the inside of the large container and outside of the small one.
  5. Finally, we raised the bed and placed the paw inside the smaller container. In addition, we prevent the sheets and quilts from coming into contact with the floor or anything around them. If we can have a trap per leg of the bed, much better.

Attention:  We will realize the presence of bed bugs if we see rust- colored or reddish stains on sheets or the mattress itself, dark stains like a marker, which would be the same as eggs and their shells.

What to do if we have detected bed bugs?

  • The recommendation is to wash and dry sheets, bedspreads, blankets, etc. at high temperatures. Also if the suitcases or other objects have bed bugs, we can place them in black bags and leave them exposed to the sun for at least 3 hours.
  • The use of pesticides may also be necessary , but they must be used with great care to prevent poisoning. Otherwise, it would be better to call pest control professionals, even more so if the house is heavily infested.
  • First of all, we must keep the house very clean and tidy . It would be good to use the vacuum cleaner regularly to reduce the presence of various insects.
  • As a last recommendation, if we see bites of red spots on the face, neck, arms and hands, which appear in groups. Let’s be aware that they generally disappear in 1 to 2 weeks, but if we notice that they become infected or an allergic reaction occurs, we should go to the doctor.
