The first of the two Christmas-saving puff pastry appetizers: pizza braids

For this recipe, get:

  • 25 g, tomato paste
  • 400 g, puff pastry 2 sheets of 200 g
  • 200 g, hard cheese
  • 20 g, parsley
  • 3 g, oregano
  • 1 egg for brushing

Preheat the oven to 180°, then dedicate yourself to the preparation.

Take the first sheet of dough and roll it out, spread the tomato paste over the entire surface, sprinkle with oregano. Grate the cheese and sprinkle it on the dough. At this point, distribute the parsley. Cover with the second sheet of dough, press with your fingertips to seal well, then make a vertical cut with a pizza wheel to divide the preparation exactly in half, then proceed to cut horizontally to obtain many strips, about 2 centimeters wide.

Melt the butter, then use it to brush the strips. At this point, grab the first strip and place it on the second, then take a wooden skewer stick, place it in the center and gently press all the way down to obtain a double strip. Now grab the two ends and roll it up on itself. Continue in this way until all the ingredients are used up, place your puff pastry pretzels on the dripping pan lined with the special paper and brush with a beaten egg yolk.

Bake for about 25 minutes, when they are well browned on the surface, take them out and let them cool.

Serve them and enjoy the result.

But don’t miss the very quick and easy second appetizer.

Let’s get to the point.

Mortadella and cheese sticks.

For this recipe, get:

  • 350 g of mortadella in a single slice
  • 350 g of hard cheese, like Emmenthal
  • 400 g of puff pastry
  • 1 yolk
  • sesame seeds to taste

Preheat the oven to 180° and line the dripping pan with the special paper.

Cut the mortadella into strips about 5 cm long and 1 cm thick. Keep close at hand.

Now also reduce the cheese into small pieces 5 centimeters long and 5 millimeters thick.

Roll out the sheet. With a washer, make lots of strips 2 centimeters wide, sectioning it along the width.

Take a stick of mortadella and a stick of cheese, put them together, then wrap the dough around both to create a stick and place it on the dripping pan.

Continue in this way until all the ingredients are finished, trying to arrange them well spaced.

Then brush the surface with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake for just 15 minutes, remove from the oven, leave to cool and serve.
