What is Coriander?

Cilantro or Coriandrum sativum is a plant belonging to the Apiaceae family. Its name is derived from the Greek koriandron. It is also known as Arabic parsley or Chinese parsley. Native to North Africa and the Mediterranean region, this plant is astonishing, because the different parts that compose it have been exploited since ancient Egypt for culinary and medicinal purposes. Today, coriander leaves, fruits and seeds are used in more diverse applications.
