6 Mistakes We Make That Ruin Our Laundry

When we machine wash we dry them, we iron our clothes, we sometimes find them in poor condition. Follow our tips for taking care of them and the mistakes to never make to keep our laundry intact.

1 – HIGH WATER TEMPERATURE

  • We usually wash our clothes in extremely high water temperature, but this causes them to lose their color and shape. So it’s best to keep it at a lower temperature so your clothes wear out more slowly.
  • Plus, cold and warm water can deal with clothing dirt the same way hot water handles it, especially if you have a good detergent and a good washing machine. However, the only clothes that should be wasted at 190°F are sheets and towels for sanitizing. The rest of your clothes will turn out just fine in lower temperatures.

2 – TEMPERATURE SHOCKS

What discolors dark clothes is differences in temperature, which is why in the dryer, we favor the color program to prevent black clothes from becoming dull.

3 – DO NOT CLOSE THE ZIPPERS

With the small metal teeth, open closures can be formidable, especially when in contact with delicate textiles. Remember to close them.

4 – TOO SOFTENER OR DETERGENT

  • A large amount of detergent will permanently clog the detergent tank, causing an unpleasant odor inside your machine and in your clothes. While a large amount of fabric softener will make clothes difficult to rinse and instead soft.
  • It is essential to read the added dosages on the packaging to avoid making these mistakes for a healthier washing machine and better clothes. However, never pour them without your measuring cup. If you think your clothes are way too dirty for this dosage, you can run two cycles or use the prewash mode.

5 – WASH A BRA WITHOUT MESH

Two things: firstly it damages your underwear and secondly, if it is not stapled, the hooks get caught in other clothing, which is the beginning of snags, knots… in short, to be avoided.

6 – HAND WASH

When it comes to our delicate outfits, washing machines are not the right tool to wash them. The bra will quickly stretch and lose its shape, and the same goes for swimsuits and lace lingerie. Washing them by hand would therefore be the best option.

However, nylon tights can actually be washed in the washing machine, but only if these following rules are applied:

  • Wash at 90°F.
  • Use a special detergent.
  • Low speed.
  • Flip them over.
  • Use a special wash bag where you can put them.
