What you will need:
First, get a large bag. You can use any bag, as long as it’s big enough.
Prepare 35 liters of compost. You will add compost as the potatoes begin to grow. Choose slightly damp compost for best results.
Fertilization is an important step.
Buy 45 grams of organic potato fertilizer which you will scatter in the bag after placing the potatoes in it.
Once you have gathered these items, you will need 4 or 5 pre-sprouted potatoes. In fact, pre-germinating the tubers of this vegetable saves two to three weeks in the growing process.
Here’s how to plant your pre-sprouted potatoes:
- Start by perforating the bottom of the bag before filling it with compost to a height of 10 cm.
- Place the pre-sprouted potatoes on the surface, making sure to space them with a distance of 20 to 40 cm between each plant.
- Distribute the 45 grams of organic potato fertilizer evenly, making sure not to place it directly on the potatoes.
- Add between 5 and 15 cm of compost to cover the potatoes.
- Due to the moisture in the compost, you won’t need to water for a week.
- Once the potatoes start to grow, you can unfold the edges of the bag and add more compost.
- Water lightly if necessary, but do not overwater.
In a few weeks, the potatoes will germinate and reach around ten centimeters. Carefully separate the plants and cover them with compost. Let them grow by watering lightly.
For good results, place the bag in a sunny location. It is advisable to start planting between March and April for a better harvest. With this simple trick you will no longer need to buy potatoes, because you can easily grow them at home.
