Winter and the cold are near and soon we will all need our  radiators  to keep our  house warm  and to warm up from the cold outside.

Before turning them back on, however, you must always carry out a  thorough cleaning , especially after the long summer break.

In fact, we must always consider that our  radiators  have been turned off since spring and that they may have accumulated  dust  and  dirt .

Cleaning them, therefore, becomes important not only for a matter of cleanliness but above all for our  health .

In  fact,  clean radiators help keep the air in our home healthier  and prevent us from breathing traces of dust.

Today, we’re going to give you  tips on how to clean your radiators with natural remedies so you’re ready to fire up this winter.

Remove dust from radiators

As we have already said,  radiators  tend to accumulate dust, so their cleaning becomes necessary for health reasons, especially for those who are  allergic.

To remove dust  from your radiators, you can use:

• the vacuum cleaner
• phon

Vacuum 

To  remove dust from radiators  you can use the vacuum cleaner that you commonly use for cleaning.

The vacuum cleaner  is already a good first remedy to eliminate part of the excess dust that has accumulated over time.

But for optimal cleaning, we advise you to use the  feather duster , a  dust catcher brush  or an  antistatic cloth .

These, in fact, are able to eliminate even the small residues of dust that the vacuum cleaner is unable to eliminate.

Phon

In addition to the vacuum cleaner, we recommend another immediate and simple remedy for removing dust from radiators: the  hair dryer .

To use the hair dryer, first place a damp cloth behind the radiator and another on the floor.

At this point, activate your hair dryer on the jet of  cold air , and let the air be directed towards the points where there is more dust.

You will notice that all the  dirt  will settle directly on the damp rags.

We advise you to follow this procedure also during the winter season so as to avoid the accumulation of dust.

External cleaning

Now that we have dusted our radiators, it’s time to proceed with the  cleaning .

Cleaning is important to remove further traces of dust, but also to remove any  stains .

Although,  cast iron radiators are more difficult to clean as they have an ” accordion ”  surface , for their cleaning, you can use the same ingredients with which you will clean  aluminum  or  other metal radiators .

For cast iron radiators, however, there are specific brushes that shrink according to the size of the cracks.

Vinegar

To clean   both  cast iron  and  aluminum radiators , you will need:

• a liter of  water
• 1 glass of vinegar
• a glass of  alcohol

First, pour 1 liter of water  and the glass of  vinegar into a bucket  . Then add the glass of  alcohol .

Mix all the ingredients and dip a sponge into the solution. Then pass the sponge over the surface of your radiator.

At this point, rinse with water and dry your heater with a dry cotton cloth. Your radiators will be like new !

Bicarbonate

Another remedy to clean your radiators is baking soda, an ingredient widely used in  household cleaning.

It can be used, above all, in case of  yellow spots .

For this remedy, you need:

• three tablespoons of  baking  soda
• 1 liter of  water 
• two tablespoons of vinegar

In a bucket,  mix all the ingredients . Dip your sponge and pass it on the surface of your radiator.

After that, rinse with water and proceed to dry it with a dry cloth.

Internal cleaning

However, it is not enough to clean only the  external surface  to be sure that you can turn on your radiators in complete safety during the winter season.

If you want to really thoroughly clean your  radiator , in fact, you have to make sure that it is clean inside as well .

With  internal cleaning , in fact, you can remove the  air bubbles  that cause a reduced functioning of the system. Before starting, keep in mind that  the heating systems must be turned off .

In order to clean your radiator internally, you must first open the  valve , located on the side. The procedure must take place with great caution and it is necessary to open about three quarters of the valve (ie about half a turn and no more).

You can also use pliers if you can’t. At this point, we slowly begin to vent the valve. As soon as water starts to come out, it’s time to close it again.

Your radiator is finally  ready to heat your homes this winter !
